RiseUp

I was incredibly proud to be a part of this short-lived print magazine that was a Sunday supplement in 6 million newspapers nationwide.

This story was about Muslim stand up comedians coming of age in a post 9/11 world.

Miles Dean, a N.J. teacher, rode 5,000 miles on horseback from New York to L.A. It was a great afternoon sitting in the shade watching his horse roll in the grass as he told stories.

This was my first story for the magazine, an analysis of race and ethnicity and aging. As a journalist, it doesn't get any better than this. My editor says, "I want you to write something about race and aging?" I say, "What do you want me to write?" He says, "Find what fascinates you. Write that."
